Cow Bop takes challenge down Highway 49

In a Highway 49 challenge from Downieville to eventually Oakhurst, western swing/jazz band Cow Bop plays its first gig of the challenge Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. in Nevada City.

“We will depart Downieville with $100 in hopes of bartering, busking and bopping our way to Oakhurst,” Cow Bop guitarist Bruce Forman said. “People around the country will be pledging $49 to support music programs that we run for kids, which are free of charge.”

The pledges will be donated to JazzMasters Workshop, a national mentoring program founded by Forman in 2000.

The group’s new CD, “Swingin’ Out West,” is presently on the jazz, western and Americana radio charts.

There is no cover for Cow Bop’s Monday performance at Cooper’s at 235 Commercial St. Call (415) 516-1327 with questions.
