County misses on $7.7 million broadband grant

Federal officials passed over Nevada County’s request for a $7.7 million grant to increase access to broadband (high-speed) internet.

The project, spearheaded by the Nevada County Economic Resource Council, would have provided broadband access to all Nevada County residents west of Donner Summit. It was passed over in favor of projects in Los Angeles and the Bay Area inside the state, and a number of out-of-state projects. All funding was made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
