Council rejects medical marijuana shops

FULLERTON ” The Fullerton City Council has voted to ban medical marijuana dispensaries in the city.

The panel voted 4-1 on Tuesday evening to curb establishment of the clinics and reverse a decision two weeks ago to consider regulating zoning for the dispensaries in Southern California.

Mayor Sharon Quirk, who previously supported the clinics, said that after meeting with Police Chief Pat McKinley she had a better understanding of the various enforcement and financial pressures that would have been placed upon the city.

All on the council but Pam Keller supported the ban.

Marijuana use is illegal under federal law, which does not recognize the medical marijuana laws in California and 11 other states.
