Controlled burn leads to smoky skies

The smoke rolling into western Nevada County today is from a controlled burn in the Smartville area, fire officials said.

California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Capt. Steve Mueller said the burn was 250 acres and being done by the UC Davis field station in the Smartville area. The blaze was a one-day operation and is currently burning itself out.
