Compassionate conservatism?

One wonders if the concept of “compassionate conservatism,” used so freely by President Bush during his initial campaign for the presidency will continue to haunt him through this final period of his presidency.

A case in point is the president’s veto Thursday of the children’s health-care bill, which passed Congress after receiving bipartisan support.

Despite this significant support, the children’s health-care bill will not be able to realize a successful congressional override without an additional 15 “compassionate conservative” Republicans voting to override the president’s veto. Will we see such a positive compassionate conservative response?
