Nevada County UN Association gathering rights violations data
The local chapter of United Nations Association (UNA-USA Golden Empire Chapter) is currently reaching out to any person or group in Nevada County whose rights have suffered egregious violations within the past five years.
This effort is part of UNA-USA’s effort to compile a grass roots report from all over the country, with first hand accounts and/or group testimonies, which will then be part of UNA-USA’s contribution to the United States “Universal Periodic Review” (UPR) at the United Nations Human Rights Council in May of 2020.
Every five years, each country takes part in a UPR as a way for the United Nations to follow the progress of human rights around the world. The United States’ turn comes up in May of 2020.
Individuals or groups interested in responding can write a short letter (500 words maximum, printed or typed only) about their experience and send it to UNA-USA Golden Empire Chapter, P.O. Box 2683, Grass Valley, CA 95945. Letters must be received by Sept. 10. The United States led the world in the declaration of human rights 70-plus years ago after the atrocities of World War II. The United Nations continues this work today.
