Community Center hosts New Mexico Bistro with enchiladas, music

“Imagine a home-made meal waiting for you in a New Mexican hacienda,” says executive director Bette Worth. “That’s the experience we want to create for our members and guests.”

On Friday, Oct. 8, the Community Center will open its doors at 5 p.m., and the lively evening will begin. The menu features home-cooked fiesta chicken enchiladas with rice, refried beans, salad and flan, a classic Mexican custard dessert.

Diners will also enjoy the romantic music of Los Serranos, featuring Teresita Juarez Lyon, Rosemary Freelander and Francisco Lovato.

The raffle prizes include a $500 shopping spree at Hills Flat Lumber, tickets for two to the CATS production of “The King and I,” a white-gold ring set with three semi-precious gemstones, a Nevada County Landmarks Afghan, plus two dozen gourmet tamales from Teresita. There’s even a colorful pinata to be won – and more. Raffle tickets are $1 each or 15 for $10.

Dinner is $12 for members and $15 for guests and others. Reservations are requested by Oct. 6. Proceeds go to the Gold Country Community Center’s many programs, including nutrition, activities and other vital services.

“The Community Center is a lifeline for so many Nevada County seniors,” says board director Beth Moore, “and supporting this event is a powerful way to show you care.”
