Colfax woman killed in Easter accident

A 76-year-old Colfax woman died from injuries she received as a passenger in a single-vehicle accident on Highway 174 Sunday night, law enforcement officials reported Monday.

Cora Santos, 76, was riding as a front-seat passenger in her Mercury Villager on Highway 174 north of Law Ranch Road when driver, Sharon Ann Hofsaess, 59 swerved off the road for an unknown reason and slammed into tree at approximately 6:55 p.m.

Santos was transported by helicopter to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Hofsaess, of Colfax, was flown to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. She was in fair condition Monday, according to hospital spokeswoman Michelle Silva.

Backseat passenger Rudolph August Fischer, 71, also of Colfax, was transported by helicopter to Sutter Roseville Medical Center.

Information will be updated as it is received.
