Colfax blaze nearly contained

Two homes and two outbuildings have been confirmed lost in the 934-acre Stevens Fire.

The blaze was confirmed to be 90 percent contained Wednesday morning and is expected to be fully contained by 6 p.m. this evening.

Evacuees are now being allowed to return to their homes. Six injuries to firefighters were reported. The injuries include sprains, bee stings and poison oak.

An earlier report of a broken leg suffered by one firefighter turned out to be a sprain, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection spokeswoman Pat Burger said.

Fire crews have slowly been reassigned to other counties. Burger said large fires usually take one or two weeks to clean up.
