Club news: Gold Country Celtic Society

The Gold Country Celtic Society recently had one of its most successful Robert Burns celebrations at the Miners Foundry, honoring the Poet Laureate of Scotland. On Jan. 21, over 215 attendees were treated to a wonderful dinner by APEX Catering and enjoyed two hours of entertaining Scottish and Irish music and song. The annual “Celtic Person of the Year” award was given to charter member Saunie MacGregor. George and Evelyn Miller received a Life Time Membership plaque, commemorating their long time service to the club. The Grand Prize, assembled by Bob Buhlis and Richard Farrar, was won by Lyn Bacon.

February’s monthly gathering program will include presentations by club members of the history and notable events of their particular Scottish clans. The potluck gathering will take place on Feb. 22, at the Nevada City Veteran’s Hall, beginning at 6 p.m. with a social hour. The public is invited to attend. Bring a dish to share and your own place settings. Coffee, tea, and water will be provided. For more information call Alex Fife at 477-8618.
