Club news: Empire Toastmasters

The “dynamic duo” of Claudia Stevenson and Terri Bianco together won the speaker’s trophy for their combined speech. Claudia spoke from the Entertaining Manual and humorously recounted strategies she used while being coached to overcome her disdain of money. As she recited each one, Terri, a corporate trainer and personal coach in “real” life, used the Speaking to Inform Manual to explain how and why strategies were chosen.

Veteran Toastmaster Jill Caruthers-Fox then explained why toastmasters proceed through manuals and how the club benefits in the process. Table Topics Master Mondae Hott used to select the word of the day, and folks spoke spontaneously at her prompts. Guest Tim Wilson won. Empire Toastmasters is a fine way to learn speaking skills in a safe environment while having a lot of fun in the process. They meet Fridays from 1 to 2:15 p.m. For more information, call 272-7111 or 272-7555.
