Expanding the available historical records at Doris Foley Library in Nevada City has been the focus of Nevada County’s Captain John Oldham Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Recently, the DAR chapter Regent Karen Keasbey met with Steve Fjeldsted, county librarian, to present a check in the amount of $300 to Nevada County Friends of the Library to be used for the specific purpose of initiating a project to purchase microfilm copies of early Nevada County land records, to include deeds and homestead records. This microfilm will be housed at the Doris Foley Historical Library at 211 N. Pine St. in Nevada City. It is understood that other genealogical societies in the community will be contributing to this fund.

The Captain John Oldham Chapter donated the funds in memory of chapter member Ruth Chesney, who passed away in January of 2006. Ruth was born in Nevada City in 1908, and she was the last remaining charter member of the Captain John Oldham Chapter, which was founded in 1957.

One of DAR’s three main objectives is historical preservation and creating easy public access to these important local records is a responsibility the local DAR chapter fully endorses. For more information call 478-0110.
