Boy Scout Troop 855

Boy Scout Troop 855 will meet Monday night in the parking lot at Litton Engineering, where they will practice and compete in a challenging and fun orienteering (compass) course, starting at 7 p.m., with all troop members, families, and the general public invited to attend. Scouter Keith Chambers and son Darren Chambers will be instructing on orienteering and organizing the compass course. League of Women Voters

of Western Nevada County

The League of Women Voters of Western Nevada County conducted a Planning Retreat/Workshop Friday, June 11, at Peace Lutheran Church in Grass Valley.

Retiring and incoming board members met to exchange portfolios, discuss plans for the coming year and enjoy lunch.

The board is looking forward to intensive voter service activities including voter registration, candidates forums, and presentations of the pros and cons which will appear on the November ballot.

Nevada County Historical Society

The general meeting of the Nevada County Historical Society will be Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Railroad Museum on Bost Ave. in Nevada City. Bill Slater, archaeologist for the Downieville district of the U.S. Forest Service, will present a slide show and talk about the historical sites in our local Tahoe National Forest. Penn Valley Lions

The Penn Valley Hi Graders were visited by Tiffany Van Horne and her mother, Wendy Van Horne, at its meeting on June 11.

Tiffany is a contestant in the California Teen Miss Pageant, representing Nevada County. She told us about the pageant and her participation and goals. She performed part of the dance routine she will present at the pageant.

The next major project of the Hi Graders will be its Potato Booth at the Draft Horse Classic on Sept. 9-16. We will look for you there.

The Lions Clubs welcomes anyone who is interested in working on projects and invites you to attend one of our meetings. We meet on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month.
