Claudia Walker, born Claudia Susan LaPerle, died September 26, 2010 at her home in Grass Valley with her family by her side.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 2 at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church at 1979 Ridge Road, Grass Valley, with a reception to follow at the social hall. A private burial will be held later at St. Paul’s cemetery in
Claudia was born May 24, 1949 in Sacramento, Calif. She grew up in Sacramento and Southern California, and graduated from Pioneer High School in Whittier, Calif.
Claudia was a gifted and caring Registered Nurse with a specialty certification in Critical Care Nursing. She began working at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital in 1976 as a Nurses Aide and later earned her nursing degree at Sacramento State University while working full-time. Claudia left the hospital from 2000-2002 to work for the California Nurses Association, and testified on the Senate floor helping to secure passage of the nursing ratio law. She returned to bedside nursing at Sierra
Nevada Memorial Hospital and Kaiser Permanente in 2002 and was soon promoted to Nursing Supervisor at Sierra Nevada. She retired from nursing in 2008 due to failing health.
Claudia loved the outdoors and was a long-time member of Sierra Outdoor Sports Club. She and her husband Paul spent many happy years together camping, bicycling, hiking, skiing and kayaking. Claudia was SCUBA certified and enjoyed diving in the Caribbean and off the Florida Keys. She was an adventurous traveler, visiting New Zealand, China, Thailand, Costa Rica, and Mexico.
Claudia is survived by her loving husband Paul Robert Walker; son, Christopher Hadel, Jr. of Grass Valley; step-son Jason Walker of Sacramento; and daughter Laura Ines and son-in-law Virgil Ines of Grass Valley and their three children Brian, Alexa and Katelyn, to whom she was a devoted grandmother.
She is also survived by her mother Billie Guinn, brother Stephen La Perle, and sister Catherine Carren, all of Sacramento. She was preceded in death by her father Harold LaPerle.
At Claudia’s request, in lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Crisis Kare Nursery, P.O. Box 2080, Grass Valley, CA 95945.
