Classical musicians celebrate new CD

Classical guitarist Jamey Bellizzi and violinist Brenda Bellizzi not only get to perform Sunday in their hometown (at Kirby’s Creekside), but they will also simultaneously celebrate their second CD, “Silver Reflection, Softly Waking the Soul.”

Their latest CD includes selections written by Cuban composer Ernesto Lecouna; Argentine composers Astor Piazzolla and Angel Villodlo; and Mexican composer Manual Ponce. Works by Johannes Brahms, Gabriel Faure and Jules Massenet are also featured.

The Bellizzis have performed together as Violin & Guitar Duetto since 1998. They have played classical and Latin music most recently in the Folsom Guitar Festival, on Sacramento TV and the Amalfi Coast in Italy.

Jamey Bellizzi has recorded several solo CDs, his latest “Serenade of Gold,” and also teaches classical guitar. Brenda Bellizzi leads the Yuba River Charter School’s strings program and is a principal violinist for the Apollo Opera Orchestra. Her solo recording was “Sentimento.”

The CD release party is from 7 to 10 p.m. Sunday. There is no cover charge.

Kirby’s Creekside is at 101 Broad St., Nevada City.
