Clara Haggerty

Clara Ethyl Haggerty passed away April 7 at a local medical facility. She was 93.

Mrs. Haggerty was born Aug. 21, 1913, to Walter Jones and Bertha Scott Jones in Burwell, Neb. She moved from Nebraska to Arizona as a young child and, in 1928, moved with her family to Scotts Valley.

After graduation from Santa Cruz High School, she married William Haggerty in 1934. The couple lived in Sunnyvale and later in Redwood City.



Mrs. Haggerty was a homemaker and talented sculptor, watercolor and pine-needle basket artist. Locally, her baskets won two first place ribbons at the Nevada County Fair. Mrs. Haggerty was a seven-year resident of Nevada County.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Ann Spenik of Menlo Park, and Maureen Ray of Grass Valley; son, Michael Haggerty of Smartville; grandsons, David Spenik, Gavin Ray and Greg Haggerty; and granddaughter, Jennifer Spenik. Mrs. Haggerty was preceded in death by her son, Ronald Haggerty of Redwood City, in 2006; husband, William, in 1983; and sister, Elsie Sims.




Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
