City Council to honor three officers tonight

The Grass Valley City Council is set to honor three rescuers who went into a burning building last August and saved two women from death.

At their 7 p.m. meeting the council will recognize Grass Valley Firefighter Gary Dunne, Police Sgt. Joe Matteoni and Nevada County Consolidated Firefighter Jeff Johnston for their bravery in an Aug. 30 apartment fire on the 300 block of Mill Street. The three ran in while the structure- a total loss- was burning down and saved the lives of two women.

A ceremony presenting the three with medallions is planned early in the meeting, and a number of local emergency response personnel are expected to be in attendance.

City Hall is on 125 E. Main Street.
