Chester Cornish

Visitation for family and friends of Chester Thomas Cornish of Fresno will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Chapel, 1425 E. Saginaw Way in Fresno. Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Fresno.

Mr. Cornish died Saturday, March 26, in Fresno. He was 87.

He was born April 22, 1917, in Grass Valley, to James and Camille Cornish. He was a third generation resident of Grass Valley. He retired from Sherman Clay as store manager where he worked for 30 years. After his retirement he worked for J.C. Penney for 10 years.



He is survived by his wife, Elfrieda Cornish of Fresno; daughter and son-in-law, Gretchen and David Jessen of Fresno; granddaughters Briana and Ashley Jessen of Fresno; sister and brother-in-law, Marian and Wilbur Wells of Grass Valley; sister-in-law, Pat Cornish of Sonoma; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Camille Cornish; brother, James Cornish; and sister, May Scoble.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Chapel in Fresno.
