Chester Brady

Chester “Chuck” Brady passed away June 8. He was 76.

Mr. Brady was born March 17, 1931, in You Bet. He attended grammar school in You Bet through the sixth grade and then continued his education in Nevada City, where he graduated from high school in 1949.

After high school, Mr. Brady joined the West Coast Longshore Union in the Port of Stockton, where he worked from 1950 to 1952. From 1953 to 1954, he then served in the United States Army, at Fort Lewis, Wash.



In 1955, Mr. Brady moved to San Pedro where he met his future wife, Sylvia Givens, whom he married Sept. 2, 1956. Mr. Brady rejoined the Longshore Union in April 1957 and was a very active union member, serving in various capacities as an officer for Local 13, in the Los Angeles and Long Beach harbors.

Mr. Brady is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sylvia; son, Bill “Red” Brady; daughter, Sandy Hernandez; son and daughter-in-law, Joey Brady and Jennifer; nine grandchildren; brother Ken Brady, of Grass Valley, and Jerry Brady, of San Pedro; sisters Dorothy Edwards, of Twain Heart, and Mildred “Mimi” Myers, of Yuba City; 14 nieces and nephews; and 30 great-nieces and nephews.
