Want an easy way to become involved in Community Asian Theatre of the Sierra?

Then check out the group’s third annual picnic Saturday and meet the group’s board of directors, designers, directors, volunteers, actors, families and friends. Those picnickers new to the group will quickly find out how to become involved in Community Asian Theatre of the Sierra’s next show in January at the Nevada Theatre, which is “Tibet Through The Red Box,” based on the Caldecott Honor-winning book by Peter Sis.

Saturday’s picnic is from noon to 5 p.m. at 12282 N. Bloomfield Road in Nevada City. Activities and entertainment include mahjong, horseshoeing, badminton, volleyball, water balloon toss, taiko drumming jam session, swing dancing, children’s activities, music by Al Martinez and swimming in a pond.

Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for 5- to 11-year-olds, and free for anyone under 5. The meal includes barbecue and Asian food, salads, desserts and beverages.

Reservations can be made by calling 265-2990 or by sending checks made payable to CATS at 228 Commercial St., Number 88, Nevada City, CA 95959.

Anyone wishing to volunteer for setup and cleanup should call picnic coordinator Jeannie Woods at the number above.
