Nov. 16 new folk singer John Gorka will perform at The Center for the Arts in Grass Valley. Tickets are $20, available through the Center’s Box Office, 314 W. Main St., or at the usual ticket outlets. Call 274-8384, ext. 14, or visit http://www.thecenterforthearts.org for more information.

Nov. 16 is The Nevada County Poetry Series, which will introduce the 2006 anthology and have a season- ending open mic, starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Off Center Stage, at 315 Richardson St., Grass Valley (behind the Center for the Arts). Call 432-8196 or the center at 274-8384 for more information. Purchase tickets at the door: $5 general, seniors and students; and $1 for those under 18. Refreshments are included. It’s a party, so Bill Gainer says, “Bring your poems, prose, guitars, whatever you have. The stage is yours!”

Nov. 19 is The Flying Hare Anniversary Party, 3-7 p.m., with paintings/photography by two talented young artists, Arkady Aura and Annabelle Schossig. Also Afro-Celtic world music by Root Down One.
