Charles Kethley

Services for Charles Kethley of Grass Valley will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the Nevada City chapel of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary. Burial will be at Oakmont Memorial Park Cemetery in Lafayette.

Mr. Kethley died Thursday, Jan. 27, at home. He was 85.

He was born June 27, 1919, in Richmond, to Charles and Alma Kethley. He was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Corp in 1942, and served overseas in 1944 and 1945. He married Iva in 1944, in Richmond. He worked for the Richmond Unified School District from 1945 to 1979. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Bay Cities Lodge No. 337 for 50 years. He moved from Richmond to Concord in 1958, and then from Concord to Grass Valley in 1980. He enjoyed cars, sports and music.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law Sandra and Gary Smith of Brentwood, and Patricia and Tom Brown of Grass Valley; grandsons and granddaughters-in-law Troy and Nancy Smith, and Brent and Denise Smith; grandson, Todd Smith; granddaughters and grandsons-in-law Amie and Lance Martin, and Melissa and Jason Soderlund; and great-grandchildren Chelsea, Hailey, Christopher, Hunter, Ashley, Matthew and Hudson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Iva, in 1998.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Foothills.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
