Charles Hilton

Visitation for family and friends of Charles L. “Chuck” Hilton of Smartville will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Nevada City chapel of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary. Private services will be held at a later date.

Mr. Hilton died Tuesday, Oct. 8, in Smartville. He was 85.



He was born May 3, 1917, in Central City, Neb., to Guy and Lela Dever Hilton. He was a farmer in Nebraska and later managed several service stations for Standard Oil Co. before owning his own Chevron station in Poway. He retired from Collin Pines Lumber in Chester. He enjoyed the outdoors, nature and trips to Reno.

He is survived by his companion, Norma Sowell of Smartville; sons and daughter-in-laws Larry and Nancy Hilton of Weaver, Ala., and Edgar and Johanna Hilton of Escondido; former wife, Eleanor Hilton of Poway; sister, Louise Hansen of Simi Valley; brother, Leonard Hilton of Kearney, Neb.; grandchildren Lara Hilton Sloan, Dustin Harper and Eddie, Joey, Anna Kate and David Hilton; and great-granddaughter Destiny Harper. He was preceded in death by his parents.




Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Foothills.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
