Celtic fiddler plays at in-home concert

One of the premier Celtic violinist/fiddlers on the international music scene today, Jamie Laval is performing Sunday at a private home in Grass Valley.

Laval performs traditional and innovative Celtic music in an expressive style of acoustic Irish and Scottish traditional folk music that ranges from tender and melancholy to wildly jubilant. His approach to fiddle music appeals to classical and jazz audiences.

Having performed for the Queen of England, the Emmy-nominated violinist and champion fiddler has also performed on the NBC “Today Show” and done numerous movie sound tracks. He’s been hailed in Scotland as a “new star in Scottish music” after having been the first American musician to be invited to a prestigious traditional music event in Edinburgh in 2003. The year before he won the U.S. National Scottish Championship. His CD “Shades of Green” was featured on NPR’s “Thistle and Shamrock” show last October.

Appearing with Laval will be guitarist, composer, and producer Hans York, who plays everything from Brazilian to blues.
