Celeste Starr’s art displayed at Cafe Mekka

Celeste Starr’s 25 works displayed at Cafe Mekka through June 30 represent her endeavors of the past two years.

Six of the newer works are nudes on bicycles and motorcycles.

“I did a couple of bicycles for my earlier show which sold so I did it again for this show, knowing that the Nevada City Bicycle Classic was coming up (this Sunday),” said Starr, who conceived her “nude on wheels” series when friends told her last fall about an old Queens album cover featuring nudes riding on bikes. Although she never found a copy of the album, Starr was nonetheless inspired with the concept.

The other watercolors, acrylics, oils and pastels are on subjects she personally relates to, such as “The Catch” about her daughter on the trapeze.

The exhibit’s viewing hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays; Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Fridays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to midnight.

Cafe Mekka is at 237 Commercial St. in Nevada City. Call Starr at 274-0854 for more information about the show or about her other works.
