Celebrating the life of a bullfighter

Donny Martin, a favorite of rodeo fans for over 20 years, passed away on July 1 from his injuries after being knocked unconscious by a bull. Friends, family and admirers are getting together Saturday at the Penn Valley Rodeo Grounds for a benefit spaghetti feed dinner from 4:30 -10:30 p.m., with live music, dancing, raffle and silent auction.

Everyone is also invited to attend a Cowboy Church service on Sunday, 10 a.m., and a benefit bull ride sponsored by the Western Regional Junior Bull Riding Association at noon, both at the same venue.

Tickets for the Saturday dinner and dance are $15, available online through Paypal at http://www.pvrodeo.com and at the gate. Tickets for the Sunday bull ride are $10 at the gate. Children under six are admitted free to each event. Proceeds from these events will benefit the Martin Family Fund; Martin was in intensive care for weeks before he died.

Martin had been the 2007 Bull Fighter of the Year by the California Cowboys Professional Rodeo Association.
