Cedar Ridge-area blaze likely an accident

Local authorities have tentatively determined that an accident caused the blaze that recently destroyed a Cedar Ridge-area building.

The fire occurred at about 9 a.m. Saturday at 19443 Tiger Lilly Lane and seriously burned resident Eric Elliott, 38.

Elliott was in critical condition Tuesday evening at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. According to officials, he suffered burns to more than a third of his body.

The intensity of the blaze was suspicious enough for the sheriff’s office to bring in the State Fire Marshal’s Office and arson investigators. But no evidence was found pointing to anything other than an accident, Investigator Jim Casci said.

According to Terri Taliaferro, a friend of Elliott’s, the fire was started after Elliott put diesel gasoline in a stove.
