Catholics celebrate Corpus Christi Day

The area’s Mexican Catholics celebrated Corpus Christi Day ” Latin for “body of Christ” ” with a procession Sunday evening in Grass Valley from St. Patrick’s Catholic Church on South Church Street to Neal Street, then back to the church.

The Catholic tradition celebrates the belief in the transformation of bread and wine into the body and blood of Jesus Christ during Mass, said Rev. Sylvester Kwiatkowski, the church’ new priest who led the procession for the first time in Grass Valley history.
