Catherine Veale

Private family services for Catherine T. Veale of Grass Valley will be conducted. A gathering for family and friends will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the family home on Alta Hill.

Mrs. Veale died Wednesday, April 13, in Grass Valley. She was 83.

She was born Nov. 18, 1923, in Nevada City, to John and Marie Tognarelli. She graduated from Dominica Convent in San Rafael and Mount St. Mary’s in Grass Valley. She married Lloyd Richards Veale on Sept. 29, 1945, in Nevada City. She worked numerous jobs including working for Sierra Nevada Medical Labs, as a legal secretary, District Attorney and California Division of Forestry. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She help start Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Candy Stripers Organization. She was a former 4-H Leader, Cub Scouts Leader and was a member of the Native Daughters of Nevada City. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, gardening, cooking, and her family.



She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Lloyd R. Veale of Grass Valley; son, Richard “Dick” Veale of Grass Valley; daughter, Barbara J. Carman of Grass Valley; and grandchildren Kim Evans, Richard S. Veale, Clinton Carman, and Wade Carman all of Grass Valley.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.




Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
