Catch the Fever at fifth annual ball

Raid your closet for black and white duds and dancing shoes, because the fifth annual Nevada County Black and White Ball is Saturday at Miners Foundry Cultural Center.

Better make sure those shoes are comfortable, because there’ll be serious dancing to the sounds of Swing Fever, and then Buck Love and the Humperheads.

Swing Fever has performed jazz of the ’30s and ’40s for more than two decades. The San Francisco group, which averages 30 concerts a year, has toured and recorded with Count Basie, Duke Ellington and Clark Terry.

The Humperheads play R&B, funk, world beat, reggae and originals. The Nevada County band, which attracts packed crowds at all of its gigs, has played at other black and white balls.

In between music sets will be swing dance demonstrations and lessons from Foothill Swing Society and Jitterbugs, Inc.

Complimentary appetizers will be provided. Wine, beer and soft drinks will be sold.

Presented by the Foundry and KVMR-FM, the ball is a benefit for the Nevada County Chernobyl Children’s Project.
