California voter registration deadline approaches

Californians have until midnight Monday to register to vote in the Nov. 2 general election.

The secretary of state’s office will hold a registration drive at the Sacramento Convention Center from 11 a.m. to midnight Monday to encourage voter participation.

With three weeks to go before the election, nearly 17 million Californians already are registered, while another 6.5 million are eligible.

Democrats represent the majority of California’s electorate – 44 percent – while 31 percent of voters are registered Republican. About one in five voters declines to state a party preference.
