Cal Fire UPDATE: Beale fire, 867 acres fully contained

Update: 12 p.m.

Firefighters Sunday afternoon responded to a 600-acre blaze off Chuck Yeager Road, at Beale Air Force Base, stopping its forward progress in about two hours, Cal Fire said.

The fire, first reported at 2:16 p.m. on Air Force property, led multiple agencies to respond. They stopped the blaze’s forward progress just before 5 p.m. and had it 75 percent contained by 5:40 p.m., Cal Fire said.

No structures were threatened or people injured. The fire’s cause remains under investigation, said Mary Eldridge, Cal Fire public information officer.

“It’s just wide open space out there,” Eldridge added. “It’s all grass.”

Eldridge anticipated firefighters would remain at the scene through the night.
