C. Frederick Hansen

Memorial services for C. Frederick Hansen of Grass Valley will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Nevada City chapel of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.

Mr. Hansen died Monday, Dec. 29, in Grass Valley. He was 82.

He was born June 11, 1921, in Owatana, Minn., to Clifford and Lumetta Hansen. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and Army Signal Corps. He received a B.A. from Carleton College, an M.S. in chemistry from Stanford University, and a Ph.D. in physics from Nagoya University. He was a research scientist for NASA at Ames Research in Mountain View and at GM Research in Santa Barbara. He taught physics at MIT and San Jose State University, and he traveled to universities around the world as a visiting professor. He also published numerous research papers. He enjoyed flying, hiking, skiing and playing piano.



He is survived by his sons George of Nevada City and David of Houston, Texas; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Richard Hansen in 1999.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
