C. Frederick Hansen

Memorial services for C. Frederick Hansen of Grass Valley will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Nevada City chapel of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.

Mr. Hansen died Monday, Dec. 29, in Grass Valley. He was 82.

He was born June 11, 1921, in Owatana, Minn. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and Army Signal Corps. He received a B.A. from Carleton College, an M.S. in chemistry from Stanford University and a Ph.D. in physics from Nagoya University. He worked as a research scientist for NASA at Ames Research in Mountain View and GM Research in Santa Barbara. He taught physics at MIT, San Jose State University and traveled to universities around the world as a visiting professor. He also published numerous research papers. He enjoyed flying, hiking, skiing, and playing the piano.



He is survived by his sons George of Nevada City, and David of Houston, Texas; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Richard Hansen, in 1999.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
