Buying a birdhouse helps the disabled

The community has come together once again to make sure that the Neighborhood Center of the Arts is able to continue its mission as a nonprofit center for about 60 artists with developmental disabilities.

Tonight’s event includes an auction and wine tasting at the Nevada City Winery, 321 Spring St., Nevada City, 6-8 p.m. NCA and other local artists, as well as celebrities in our midst, have crafted amazing birdhouses that will be be auctioned off in both silent and live mode. Among the birdhouses are those of clay and glass molding; one is constructed of computer circuit boards, mosaics, metal and organic materials.

Live entertainment includes NCA’s own, Kim Pearson.

Tickets are $25 and are available at The Bookseller in Grass Valley and the Nevada City Winery, as well as at NCA (at the rear of 200 Litton Drive, Grass Valley). Contact the center’s Director Glen Baird at (530) 272-7287 or for more about NCA or to buy tickets.

Mark your calendar for the center’s next event at its own location – the annual holiday weekend sale, opening on Dec. 6, with a reception from 5-8 p.m.
