Chambers of Commerce play a key role in the support and promotion of a strong, healthy and diverse business community.

With teamwork the Chambers are able to provide expanded networking opportunities and promotion of the business community.

The Chambers’ are partnering with KNCO/Star 94 FM Radio to offer a new marketing tool. Chamber members who spend $500 toward a new ad campaign will receive a matching $500 in commercial air time.

Members are encouraged to contact their KNCO sales representative for details.

The Greater Grass Valley Chamber is highlighting three area businesses at Ribbon Cutting Ceremonies during the month of May. Grand Opening Ribbons were cut on May 5 at REMAX Performance in Penn Valley and on May 6 at Harmony Fitness and Mercury Cleaners in Grass Valley. Crystal Empire Gems will be the featured business at a Ribbon Cutting ceremony at 5 p.m. May 19 at 139 Mill St. in Grass Valley.

The 6th Annual Nevada City Soapbox Derby is set for Sunday, June 5th on Nimrod Street near Pioneer Park in Nevada City. Teams compete in either the Speed or Art category. Proceeds from the race are earmarked for improvements at Pioneer Park. Entries are still being accepted.

Stroll amidst the visual delights at The First Friday Art Walks on June 3, July 1 and August 5. Downtown Nevada City Businesses will be open until 9 p.m., alive with artist shows and receptions, music and theatrical performances presented at various locations.

The Penn Valley Area Chamber of Commerce is busy wrapping its arms around the 59th Annual Penn Valley Rodeo.

May 15-22 is Rodeo Week in Penn Valley. The Chamber encourages local businesses to decorate their establishments with a western theme and ask their employees to dress in western attire for the week. Awards will be given in best décor categories.

On May 17, at 5:30 p.m., a Chamber Rodeo Mixer will be held at the Penn Valley Rodeo grounds, 10513 Spenceville Road, Penn Valley.

On May 20 and 21, the excitement gets underway, as the Rodeo Association presents the Penn Valley Rodeo. On May 22, families are invited to attend the 4th Annual Community Rodeo Playday. Admission is FREE.

On May 21, at 3 p.m., the Chamber will present the 9th Annual Rodeo Parade. It will proceed from Western Gateway Park down Penn Valley Drive to the Rodeo Grounds. Entries are FREE and are being accepted until May 20. Call Carolyn Wilson, 530-913-6073.

The Chamber will be serving delicious BBQ from the Cookhouse on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The Penn Valley Business for Breakfast networking meeting will be held on June 2, 7- 8 a.m., at Buttermaker’s Cottage in Western Gateway Park. The cost to attend for Chamber members is $10 and $15 for non-members. 530-432-1802.
