Smiley Guys changing trivia night to Wednesdays

To make room for Monday Night Football, Smiley Guys Smokehouse, a barbecue restaurant on Joerschke Drive in Grass Valley, has announced that it will be moving its well-attended trivia nights from Mondays to Wednesdays starting this month.

“When we started in February, not much else was happening on Mondays,” says Hilary Hodge, quiz master at Smiley Guys Smokehouse. “We didn’t know if the game would be successful and we had no idea how many people it would draw.”

Trivia Night at Smiley Guys starts at 7:30 p.m. and invites the public to put their knowledge to the test with a wide variety of multi-subject trivia questions. The quizzes, which are 30 questions in length, are announced over a loud speaker at the restaurant while families and teams of up to five people enjoy a meal or a beer from one of the selections on tap. Participation in the quiz is optional, but it is free to join in and prizes are awarded.

After less than one year, Trivia Night at Smiley Guys has become one of the busiest nights of the week and has brought in regular crowds month after month. Smiley Guys casually polled their regular trivia attendees and most people seemed to think that Wednesdays would be a great new night for trivia.

“I think that moving the quiz to Wednesdays to make room for football is a good idea,” says Hodge, a 49ers fan. “Many of our regular trivia players are also football fans and those who aren’t, don’t want to have to compete with the extra crowd.”
