Shut out the muck and get unstuck

Machen MacDonald

Wouldn’t it be nice if, the next time you are feeling stuck or unmotivated, you could push a reset button and get inspired, re-engaged and back on the track of productivity and resourcefulness?

Well you can essentially create that reset button for yourself. Here’s how you can do it:

Feel your empowerment by thinking back to a time or two in your life when you experienced your power, when you were on a roll and feeling unstoppable. Notice your internal dialogue about you and your life during those episodes. As you reflect, become aware of what you are now feeling and where in your body you are feeling it. Breathe that feeling in deeply and magnify it. Create and associate a word, phrase or image that captures the essence of that empowering feeling. Let’s call this your fire button for now — as in igniting the fire within.

While experiencing that heightened emotion, imagine in your mind a fire alarm that you might see in an office building or school. You know the one … it’s red and says, “In case of fire break the glass and push the button to summon help.”

Stay with your feeling of power and the associated phrase and where in your body you feel it. Now imagine placing that fire button labeled with your power phrase in that location of your body. You just created a very powerful resource for yourself.

Back to reality. Inevitably, if you are playing the game of life, the rug will get pulled out from under you from time to time.

Typically, during and after the rug pull, you may be having some negative internal dialogue about the situation and yourself in relation to the situation and, thereby, start to feel un-empowered or even stuck because you believe the internal dialogue to be true. It’s becoming your experience.

You may fall even deeper in it.

By continually replaying the negative thoughts, you become covered in the muck of stinkin’ thinkin’.

Over time, you may eventually get yourself back to feeling somewhat unstuck. However, you may not even be aware of how you actually got the muck off. It may have just worn off … or did it? Perhaps just other life experiences redirected your attention away from the muck.

In fact, you may do muck so well that it has become a familiar place for you from which to operate. The muck may even be telling you that there is nothing you can do to get it off of you, and it’s just the way it is … and you are believing that too.

You can take your power back.

Overcome the muck by imagining breaking the glass and pushing your fire button to summon your empowered self.

Know that you have this fire button within you at all times and that you can hit it early and often when you feel yourself stuck or falling out of your power. You have a choice. You can stay mired in the muck. Or you can shut the muck up … unless the muck is telling you that you need to stay mired in it. The muck can be very clever, by the way.

Push the button!

Pushing your fire button activates an internal sprinkler system that showers you with the essence of your empowering images that you generated when you formulated your fire button, thereby rinsing the muck away. Imagine yourself being cleansed of all the muck of being stuck.

Now, notice what is possible for you having become muck free and able to access your awesome self at your command.

Take an inspired action now, while you are muck free, so you can start to condition your increased capacity for resisting the muck and moving toward what you want for yourself.

You absolutely deserve it!

Next time you find yourself mired in muck, remember to break the glass (thoughts of what’s holding you back) and push your fire button to get back into your power.
