Machen MacDonald: Increase productivity by going to the BEACH
Owning your own business can be very rewarding — and in my experience, as well as the experience of everybody else I know, it doesn’t come without its challenges and stresses known as growing pains.
It is all too easy to become overwhelmed with all the moving parts and uncertainties associated with owning your own business or in being in business for yourself.
When you find yourself upset, overwhelmed, or feeling out of control, what do you do to cope with the stress and eventually get yourself back on track?
If the stress and uncertainty are too prevalent, many entrepreneurs will eventually give up on themselves, their dream, fold up their tent and go and find a “regular” job.
By working a regular job, they end up helping make someone else’s dream come true, while theirs fades into a distant memory or worse: it taunts them from the land of shoulda-woulda-coulda.
I don’t want this to happen to you. You have all that you will ever need to succeed. You don’t have to have it all lined up at the starting line. You simply have to be aware of how to be available to what you need when you need it.
To help you do this, let’s go to the BEACH:
B — Be present. People lose their power and resourcefulness when they worry about the future or they regret or live in the past. Your true power is in this very moment. I will submit to you, in this very moment, everything is pretty much OK. Right? There may be certain things you are dealing with in life and work. However, in this very moment you are good.
E — Enjoy each moment. Every moment above ground is a good moment. You may not be able to control the situation or circumstance in which you find yourself. However, you always have a choice from which perspective to deal with it. I propose you choose joy. There are two places to hang out. You can either trust that things will eventually work out or suffer in the illusion it won’t work out. Do you want more joy? Then get good at trusting.
Let’s face it, all those things you were stressing out about last month, last quarter or three years ago probably didn’t even come to pass. Suffering for nothing. What if you could go back and trust it was going to work out as it did? Well, you can’t, however, you can trust going forward.
A — Appreciate your blessings. Take inventory of your health, relationships, good fortune and opportunities.
We live in the land of opportunity. No one is risking their lives stowing away in boats, making tunnels under borders, or defecting to other countries. They endeavor to come here. People are drawn to this great country because of the opportunity to make their dreams for a better life come true.
You are already here. Count that one. You can read this article and comprehend the meaning and thereby learn.
That’s another. If you have change in your pocket, you are among the top 10 percent of the wealthiest people on the planet. That’s another. No excuses! Focus on your blessings, talents and opportunities. What you focus on expands. If you look at how much month is left at the end of your money, you just get more month and no money. If you focus on the one issue or pinch point in your business, you get more issues. Focus on what’s right and you get more right.
C — Connect deeply with others. After it is all said and done, connection is what we all seek in some way shape or form. Far too many people work way too hard and may or may not succeed only to miss out on connecting and having meaningful relationships with others.
There is no success in business that makes up for failure at home. Catch it before it’s too late. Connecting in with those that are important to us provides us the energy to keep on keepin’ on in the face of adversity. Don’t miss out.
H — Honor yourself. Finally, You must learn to become your biggest fan. Learn to honor and validate what you do and more importantly who you are. The inability to self-validate and take time to honor self is rampant in the work arena.
Far too many only feel worthy when someone else acknowledges or validates them. Take your power back and learn how to know in your bones you are good and worthy and are contributing to the well-being of the greater good. Doing so will provide you an abundance of confidence while steering clear of arrogance.
The next time you find yourself a bit sideways, take a break and go to the BEACH and get back to your center. Just as the sun is always shining even when the clouds roll in, your center and power is there inside of you even when you may forget.
See you at the BEACH.
Make it up, make it fun and make it happen!
