Emily’s Catering and Cakes to open Thursday

Emily’s Catering and Cakes will open their new location at 421 Colfax Highway in Grass Valley Thursday. The business, though, will not hold its grand opening until Nov. 8.

“We’re really excited to be a part of the avenue community,” co-owner Emily Scott-Arbaugh said Friday. “It’s really an up-and-coming area so we’re really excited about complementing the area, and we’re getting cake orders every day so we’re really excited.”

Formerly housed on the 300 block of Commercial Street in Nevada City, Emily’s is doubling its capacity with a 2,000-square-foot space that Scott-Arbaugh says is going to extend the businesses’ retail options.

“Where in the past we were more of a made-to-order business, it’s opening up our retail market, and contributing to our catering orders as well.”

Scott-Arbaugh said they have recently hired new staff for the move, and are still looking to hire more people, including an experienced cake decorator. The new bakery space will also feature Fable Coffee, an artisan pour-over coffee bar that was not previously featured at their old location.

“Everything here is fresh, never frozen,” Scott-Arbaugh said. “It’s a really nice new environment, so we really want people to come in and see the new look and the new Emily’s.”
