Financial planner finishes certification

Frederick A. Fisher, a financial planner with Ostrofe Financial Consultants of Grass Valley, has completed his Series 24 General Securities Principal certification through the National Association of Securities Dealers.






Laidley-Tennies

to head Eskaton

Vanessa Laidley-Tennies has been named administrator of the Eskaton Village Grass Valley retirement community.

Laidley-Tennies has 15 years’ experience in senior health care and is a member of the Nevada County Elder Care Coalition, the Long-Term Adult Care Planning Council and Kiwanis.

Supervisors give award to Byers’

Byers’ LeafGuard Gutter Systems of Grass Valley was awarded a certificate of appreciation from the Nevada County Board of Supervisors Feb. 5.

The certificate was awarded for the company’s recycling efforts. The company was named to the Waste Reduction Award Program last year. The WRAP program, sponsored by the California Integrated Waste Management Board, honors companies that reduce their solid waste.

Spearhead singer receives bicycle

Kipchoge Spencer, president of Xtracycle LLC, gave Spearhead singer Michael Franti an Xtracycle Sport Utility Bike during Spearhead’s performance at Center for the Arts in Grass Valley Feb. 27. Spencer opened for the show as a solo performer.

Xtracycle, a North San Juan company, manufactures a bicycle attachment, the FreeRadical, which extends a bicycle’s wheelbase by 15 inches and allows it to carry loads.

Maverick Design, Sierra Fine Arts move

Maverick Design Studio and Sierra Fine Arts moved to a 1,700-square-foot facility at 870 Gold Flat Road, Suite D, on March 1.

Maverick Design Studio, owned by Charlie Abernathybettis, employs six and offers graphic design and advertising services, including a wide-format printing facility. The company is also planning a photo studio.

Poulson earns spot in piano techs’ guild

Patrick Poulson, owner of Foothill Piano Service, 10446 Mercury Drive in Grass Valley, was elected secretary/treasurer of the California State Conference of the Piano Technicians Guild during a Feb. 14-17 convention in San Diego.

The state conference sponsors the annual California state convention for piano technicians.

Young farmers forum features Scofield

Carol S. Scofield, owner of Scofield & Associates, a Grass Valley training, presenting and consulting firm, was the featured speaker at the California Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Conference in Santa Rosa.

McMahon joins

Tin Cat Media

Maggie McMahon joined Jan Fischler and Tin Cat Media of Nevada City, a company that produces videos and other media for marketing and education.

McMahon, of Grass Valley, will be responsible for publicity and technical writing.
