Business women, Elks hold essay contest

Northern Mines Business and Professional Women and co-sponsor, the Grass Valley Elks, invite all Nevada County public high school senior students to participate in celebrating Women’s History Month by submitting an essay about a specific woman living today in the area.

Awards will be $500 for first place; $200 for second place; and $100 for third place.

All entries must be submitted to NMBPW no later than Feb. 1.

Entries can be sent to Dolores “Dee” Eldridge, Chairman, 111 Bawden Ave., Grass Valley 95945.

It may help to consider using the following guidelines:

— What makes this woman important to others?

— What makes this woman important to you?

— What has she contributed to society and the community?

— What makes her a notable woman, a woman to be remembered?

— What dreams, successes and goals has she had?

— What failures has she overcome?

A special awards ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. March 11 at the Grass Valley Elks Lodge, 109 S. School St. in Grass Valley. The three winners will be asked to read their essay that evening.

The winners and their parents will be guests.

Any student entering the competition will be invited to attend but must make a reservation.
