Bruins blank Mesa Verde in JV victory

Four Bruins scored Friday night as Bear River improved to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the Pioneer Valley League with a 28-0 win over Mesa Verde.

Tanner Mathias hit Garrett Barbic for a 32-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, followed by Brandon Vallero’s 1-yard touchdown run later in the period.

Jason Varni followed with a score on a 4-yard run, and Chris Parfitt scored in the second half on a 3-yard run.

Chad Quirarte led the Bruins defense with two sacks, and Bear River coach Duane Zauner also complimented the play of defensive lineman Zach Jannings.

“This was a good four-quarter win for us,” Zauner said. “This is what I’ve been waiting for.”
