Bruins advance to section title game

STOCKTON ” Bear River’s softball team will make its first appearance in a section championship game Saturday, after defeating Whitney 4-2 in the Division IV semifinals Friday night.

Kelly Shepard picked up the win on the mound and also homered for the Bruins.

By beating Pioneer Valley League foe Whitney for the third time this season, the Bruins earned the right to face East Union for the second time. The Lancers defeated Bear River 1-0 in the first semifinal game played Friday afternoon.

In the first matchup, East Union shortstop Rochelle Seller broke up a pitcher’s duel by sending a Britney Ceo pitch over the left-center field fence in the bottom of the sixth.

Bear River came back in the top of the seventh by putting the potential tying run on second base with two outs, but East Union pitcher Erin Arevalo forced a fly ball to end the game.
