Bruin soccer bests Marysville
Ian Armstrong netted two goals in the second half, and Bear River boys soccer bested Marysville 4-2 Monday on the road.
The Bruins got an unassisted second half goal from Blake Nielsen. Jacob Robertson also tallied a goal coming on an assist from Nielsen. Freshman goalie Jay Roundtree made 13 saves to help Bear River to the win.
The Bruins hit the pitch again Monday when they travel to Center for their Pioneer Valley League opener.
Nevada Union 2, Colfax 2
Colfax scored two goals after falling behind the Miners early to salvage the tie Tuesday afternoon.
NU tallied both its goals in the first half coming from Taiki Neihi and Santiago Peniche. Both goals came off assists from Dominic Cressa.
The Miners take the field again Thursday when they face Sierra Foothill foe Rocklin.
JV: Nevada Union 4, Colfax 1
The Miners remain undefeated in non-league play after trouncing Colfax by three goals.
Kross Corbett scored twice to lead NU, and David Gottesman and Finn Paden each netted scores in the victory.
The Miners get started in SFL play Thursday against Rocklin.
St. Francis 3, Nevada Union 1
The Lady Miners (13-8) fell in four sets to St Francis, the No. 1-ranked team in the Sac-Joaquin Section but not before putting on the pressure late.
After losing the first two sets, 25-17 and 25-12, Nevada Union took the third set 25-20, but lost a tight fourth set, 25-21.
Emily Segel and Sierra Payne led the Lady Miners with 10 kills each, Rachel Hadley added six kills to go with three blocks and an ace, and Lindsey Meyer led the team with 28 assists.
Ella Corbett, Sydney Porter and Cierra Hadley played strong defensive games for the Lady Miners.
NU will take the court again Thursday when they face Bear River.
Christian Brothers 3, Bear River 1
The Lady Bruins continued their difficult non-league schedule Tuesday with a four set loss to Christian Brothers, 22-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-16.
Sara Schell led Bear River (14-8) with 14 kills, Kirsten Pereira added 12 kills and Teryn Rath tallied nine kills. Kaya Johnson led the team in assists with 36 in the loss.
The Lady Bruins will host Nevada Union Thursday.
Bear River 4, Del Oro 3
The Lady Bruins topped Del Oro, last years SFL champ, Tuesday at Bear River.
Nicole Groat led the Lady Bruins with three goals and Andrea Brock netted the other. Patricia Southworth was dominant at goalie and Shelby Angus was instrumental on the defensive side of the ball.
Bear River hits the pool again Thursday to take on Nevada Union.
Del Oro 258, Nevada Union 263
The Lady Miners are now 0-3 in SFL play after falling to Del Oro by five strokes.
Emily Arnoldi led the Lady Miners with a 42, Megan Arnett finished with a 48, Sydni Smith and Michaela Korn both shot a 53 and Emily Price rounded things out with a 57.
NU will look to notch its first league win Thursday when it faces Roseville.
