Bruin junior varsity scores shutout in PVL opener

Brandon Vallero scored two touchdowns in Bear River’s Pioneer Valley League opener Friday at J. David Ramsey Stadium, as the Bruins scored a 20-0 shutout of league newcomer Whitney High.

Vallero scored in the second quarter on a 4-yard run and in the third on a 2-yard run.

Jason Varni capped the Bruins’ scoring with a 3-yard, fourth-quarter run.

Bear River coach Duane Zauner tipped his hat to his offensive line of Cody O’Brien, Brandon Robinson, Eric Szkotak, Drew Wilson, Nick Michaud and Chad Quirarte.

“It was one of their best games of the season,” Zauner said of the linemen.

The Bruins (4-1 overall, 1-0 PVL) head to Placer for a 5:30 p.m. game Friday.
