I’m quite concerned about the candidacy of Linda Stevens for supervisor. I, along with others, represented the Alta Hill Neighborhood Association during negotiations with the Grass Valley City Council regarding the transformation of Mulcahey Field into a city park. Our neighborhood’s goal was to find a park design that would not negatively impact surrounding homes, while providing good recreational space for future park users. Linda Stevens was mayor.

During these negotiations, Ms. Stevens was rude and condescending to us, referring to our neighborhood as “those people,” pointing out that we were not her constituency. During a break at one City Council meeting, she actually said to me, “I’m so sick of your whole neighborhood I don’t know what to do.” Direct quote. We proposed a compromise design: Linda Stevens voted against it. Fortunately, it passed in spite of her.

Bruce Conklin came to our neighborhood meetings during this time from the BOS. He listened carefully to our concerns and spoke for us to the City Council. With his help and encouragement, we reached a win-win situation for the neighborhood and the city.

Bruce listens calmly and respectfully to both sides. We need his good judgment and fair-mindedness on the Board.
