Broadway songs will be sung by 47 youth

A Broadway-style musical revue takes over Miners Foundry Cultural Center in Nevada City the next two weekends.

That’s when 47 youths from the Nevada County Performing Arts Guild present musical production numbers, short skits and monologues in “Rhythms on Broadway VI.”

The 8- to 15-year-olds will dance and sing to Broadway classics such as “I Dreamed a Dream,” “Stars,” “Anything You Can Do,” “Cabaret,” “All That Jazz,” “Puttin’ on the Ritz,” “The Telephone Hour” and “The Phantom of the Opera” highlights. Short skits and monologues will be familiar scenes from “Annie,” “Quilters” and “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown.” As is traditional with other “Rhythms on Broadway” productions, a male-only chorus line will dance to Louis Armstrong’s “Mame.”

Mila Johansen, the Performing Arts Guild’s artistic director, and Paulette Rudolph, the guild’s executive director, co-direct. Musical accompaniment/direction is by guild veteran Beverly Marks.
