Broad Street re-paving project starts tonight

A project to re-pave Broad Street in Nevada City begins around 6 p.m. tonight and will continue during the nights until Friday morning.

The first step is grinding the old pavement, which will become a base for the new pavement. On Tuesday, and Wednesday, Broad Street will be back to dirt. Repaving will commence Wednesday evening and continue Thursday evening until completion early Friday.

New pavement will run from Union Street to Bennett Street.

City staff have alerted merchants downtown and are advising visitors to park in areas other than on Broad Street. Vehicles may be towed at owner’s expense if they impede the project.

The street has been posted with notice of the closure. Sidewalks will not be impacted as no work is planned on the sidewalks at this time.

The project is funded as part of the federal stimulus program. The last major re-paving project on Broad Street was in the early 1970s.
