Grass Valley United Methodist Church

On Sunday, Grass Valley United Methodist Church will welcome members of other Methodist churches to celebrate the installation of District Superintendent the Rev. Jerry Smith at 3 p.m. Smith is former pastor of the Nevada City Methodist Church. Please join us for the ceremony and reception.

The church is located at 236 South Church Street between Neal and Walsh Streets in downtown Grass Valley. The entrance to the parking lot is on South School Street.

A family-oriented worship service is held at 8:45 a.m. and a traditional service at 10:30 a.m. most Sunday mornings. On fifth Sundays, the services are combined and we all gather for worship at 10 a.m.

Solid Rock Christian Fellowship

Sunday services starts at 11 a.m. with Praise and Worship. This week, Senior Pastor Jim Edwards will be teaching from God’s word and how it applies to you in today’s world. Children’s Church and Nursery care will be provided. After service, we will celebrate Senior Pastor Jim Edwards and Youth Pastor Greg Vesely’s birthdays with cake.

Midweek Bible study and high school Bible study is on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Inner State Youth Ministries meets every Friday from 6-9 p.m. All Nevada County youth are welcome, (sixth through 12th grades), to worship God, fellowship and hear God’s word from Pastor Greg.

First Covenant Church of Sacramento

First Covenant Church offers something special for everyone on Easter. There will be uplifting messages of hope and encouragement, dynamic and joyful music, featuring a band, choir, orchestra and dance company and a special Easter party for children ages 5 through fifth grade that includes an Easter egg hunt, puppets, a jump horse, live drama and a petting zoo. Calvary Bible Church

Members of the community are welcome to join in celebrating missions and ministries in Nevada County and around the world. The weekend-long event will be held at Calvary Bible Church from Friday through Sunday.

Friday: Free movie night at 6:30 p.m. with two missions-oriented films, “Bamboo In winter” and “The Eastern Bride.” These are suitable for children in third grade and older.

Saturday: Larry Lane, senior pastor of Chico Neighborhood Church, will speak at 1 p.m. on “Releasing the Kingdom in Your Community.” At 3 p.m., 12 missionaries will make small group presentations on their work and its challenges.

Sunday: Wycliffe missionary, Chris Jackson, from Cameroon will deliver the message, “Living Close to the Father’s Heart” at the 9 and 10:15 a.m. services. At 1 p.m., veteran mobilizer Reverend John Dupree of the Harvest Group will deliver a keynote address titled, “We Are A Cross Culture.” At 3 p.m., missionaries and ministry leaders will present a series of small group presentations on current missions and ministry issues, tends and strategies.

Childcare will be provided for all events. There are also two children’s programs for ages 2 through 6 and first through sixth graders on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. All events are free with donations gladly accepted to help defray conference expenses and to help with the missionaries’ special needs. For more information, call 273-1343.

St. Patrick’s Lenten Quiet Day

The Emmanuel Chapter of the Daughters of the King, Emmauel Episcopal Church, Grass Valley, invite you to a St. Patrick’s Lenten Quiet Day to be held at the Church, 235 S. Church St., on Saturday. The Rev. Richard Yale, rector of St. John’s Church in Chico, will conduct and has titled this event, “Finding Protection in an Unsafe World.” The meditations will be based on Hymn 370, “St. Patrick’s Breastplate.”

Pre-registration is $15 and $20 at the door. Please bring a box lunch. Morning coffee, rolls, fruit, beverages and dessert will be provided. The Quiet Day begins at 9:30 a.m. and concludes at 3 p.m. For more information, call 273-7876.
